INDIAN EQUITY MARKET OUTLOOK-25 MAY 2016

INDIAN BENCHMARKS Strong opening on D-street amid global rally
The Indian markets are set to witness a gap up opening on Wednesday tracking a surge in Asian equities and a strong finish at Wall Street overnight. SGX Nifty is trading 70.00 points higher.

Shares of Bajaj Auto, Tata Steel and GAIL will be in focus as these companies unveil their March quarter earnings numbers today. Volatility may remain high at the domestic bourses as traders roll over their positions ahead of the May futures & options (F&O) contract expiry on Thursday

Indian shares edged higher, heading for their first gain in five sessions after well-received corporate results, including from Tata Power, offset lingering worries about rate hikes by the US Fed Reserve. The S&P BSE Sensex and CNX Nifty rose 0.30%-0.23% each today.

Global Markets:

  • Asian shares gained on Wednesday, taking cues from sharp gains in European and U.S. financial shares while the dollar was underpinned as investors count on the U.S. Federal Reserve to hike U.S. interest rates in coming months.
  • U.S. stocks surged to close higher Tuesday as a rally in financial and technology shares underpinned a sharp, broadly based stock-market advance
  • European shares rose to their highest point in almost 4 weeks on Tuesday as firmer financial stocks lifted the region's equity markets.

Major Headlines of the day:

  • Sterlite Tech eyes broadband infra play.
  • Maruti earmarks 40% capex for product development.
  • Infosys to run German bank's IT operations.
  • Tata Power's generation capacity up by close to 5% in FY16.

INDIAN BENCHMARKS Global chaos signal weak start for Indian markets
The Indian shares are likely to see a weak start as the global cues look unsupportive with SGX Nifty trading 27 points lower..

Indian Indices:

Indian equity benchmarks are likely to witness a gap down opening on Thursday amidst uncertainty surrounding US interest rate outlook with the FOMC minutes showing that policymakers discussed the prospect of raising interest rates in June, souring risk taking appetite.

Fed minutes signaled that policymakers said a rise in interest rates next month is warranted if the world’s biggest economy continues to make progress.

Higher interest rates in the US may lead to capital outflows from emerging markets.

Losses in the CNX Nifty Index Futures for May delivery which fell by 0.51 per cent or 40 points at 7,837 at 10:23 AM Singapore time also signal that Dalal Street may open on a bearish note today.

Global Markets:

Asian stocks were trading mixed as commodity producers declined as a surging dollar weighed on metal and oil prices. The dollar jumped as Fed minutes signaled the possibility of a June rate hike.

China’s Shanghai Composite rose, Hang Seng fell and Japan’s Nikkei 225 rallied as a weaker yen bolstered the appeal of exporter stocks.

Wall Street ended on a mixed note on Wednesday as traders weighed the relatively hawkish FOMC minutes.

European stock markets recovered from a weak start on Wednesday, with a rally in banks and a rebound on Wall Street helping to counteract some weak corporate earnings from companies including Switzerland's Sonova.

Major Headlines of the day:

Glenmark gets USFDA nod for rufinamide
Castrol India promoter divests 7% stake viz 34.62 million shares
Indian Hotels puts Taj Boston on block to cut debt

Trend in FII flows:   The FIIs were net  sellers of  Rs -250.70 Cr in the cash segment on Wednesday  while the DIIs were net buyers of  Rs 239.91 Cr, as per the provisional figures.

INDIAN EQUITY MARKET OUTLOOK-13 MAY 2016

Sgx Nifty

INDIAN BENCHMARKS Gap down opening likely for D-Street
The Indian equity benchmarks are poised to open on a bearish note on Friday with traders likely to react negatively to dismal factory data showing a loss of momentum for Asia’s third biggest economy. SGX Nifty is trading 49.00 points down.

Industrial output ( IIP) in India fell by 0.1% in March 2016 from the same month a year ago while consumer inflation jumped to 5.4% in April 2016 from 4.83 per cent in March 2016.

Investors will eye the March quarter earnings numbers from Bank of Baroda, Cadilla Healthcare, Central Bank of India, Dena Bank, UCO Bank and Union Bank to be released

today. Continued jitters over the impact of the India-Mauritius treaty that imposes a capital gains tax on investments coming from Mauritius may also weigh on sentiment.

Indian shares closed higher on Thursday, led by lenders such as ICICI Bank, after the country's upper house of parliament passed a new bankruptcy code to address corporate debts and improve the ease of doing business. The S&P BSE Sensex and CNX Nifty gained 0.75%-0.66% each today.

Global Markets:

Asian shares got off on the back foot on Friday, while the yen nursed losses as traders wagered the Bank of Japan will add to its massive stimulus before too long.

The Dow barely eked out a gain on Thursday as a slump in technology shares, highlighted by a steep slide in Apple, pressured the market, dragging the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite lower.

European stocks fell on Thursday after a choppy session, weighed down by some disappointing earnings updates, while Bayer and BASF dropped on reports they could be interested in buying Monsanto.

Major Headlines of the day:
Bharti Airtel sets a benchmark of 1.5% for call drops for itself.
Nestle struggles to get out of the woods.
TVS Srichakra plans Rs160 crore capex.
Vu Tech to enter more cities, eyes Rs500 cr sales in FY17

INDIAN BENCHMARKS Markets may open lower amid mixed Asia trend
The key domestic benchmarks are likely to witness a gap down opening on Tuesday as investors resort to profit booking after a stellar rally in the previous session while a mixed trend in stock markets across Asia amid weakness in commodity prices may also sour the appetite for risky assets. SGX Nifty is trading 33.50 points lower.

The focus today will be on the stock of Punjab & Sind Bank as the public sector lender unveils its March quarter earnings numbers, with investors keenly eying the Gross and Net NPA levels.

Caution ahead of key macro data to be released on Thursday including March industrial output and April consumer inflation may also weigh on sentiment.

Indian shares rose by 2%, posting their biggest single-day percentage gain in nearly four weeks, as a recent string of positive corporate results raised tentative hopes about an improving domestic economy. The S&P BSE Sensex and CNX Nifty ended 1.82%-1.71% higher each.

Global Markets:

Asian shares got off to a weak start on Tuesday, pressured by weaker crude oil prices, though Japanese shares got a tailwind as the dollar stood tall against the yen.

US stocks ended mixed on Monday as traders weighed dismal China trade data, tumbling oil prices and prospects for increases in US interest rates but sentiment was supported by a rally in health care and consumer stocks

European stock markets gained on Monday, but closed off their best levels after oil prices turned negative.

Major Headlines of the day:
Tata Steel takes seven potential bids for UK assets to next stage of sale process
Sun Pharma launches app for asthma patients
ONGC crude oil output up in FY16

Trend in FII flows:   The FIIs were net  sellers of  Rs -224.40 Cr in the cash segment on Monday while the DIIs were net buyers of  Rs 350.60 Cr, as per the provisional figures.

Sensex zooms over 300 pts, Nifty eyes 7850

Share Market Tips

The market has extended its rally with the Nifty comfortable above 7800. The 50-share is up 96.50 points or 1.2 percent at 7829.95. The Sensex is up 324.89 points or 1.3 percent at 25553.39. About 1343 shares have advanced, 498 shares declined, and 74 shares are unchanged.

NTPC, Bajaj Auto, HDFC twins and ITC are top gainers in the Sensex. Thyrocare Technologies debuted at Rs 665 per share on the NSE, 49 percent premium to its issue price at Rs 446.

The initial public offering (IPO) of Thyrocare was oversubscribed 73.55 times in a price band of Rs 420-446. The issue was open for bidding from April 27-29.

Thyrocare competes with diagnostics chains such as Dr Lal PathLabs, SRL Diagnostics, Metropolis Healthcare and Apollo Clinic.

Spot gold edged lower, but remained supported in the face of a firm dollar as investors bet a weaker US payroll report would push out the timing of any rate hike.

INDIAN EQUITY MARKET OUTLOOK-05 MAY 2016

Sgx Nifty

INDIAN BENCHMARKS Bulls may open doors on Main Street today
Indian shares are likely to open on a slightly higher note as the global cues look mixed with SGX Nifty trading 8.50 points higher.

Indian Indices:

The key Indian equity benchmarks are likely to open on a flattish note on Thursday as a bearish trend in stock markets across Asia and a negative finish at Wall Street overnight amidst heightened worries over the health of the world economy, keep Dalal Street traders on the sidelines.

The CNX Nifty Index Futures for May delivery was trading little changed, up by 0.08 per cent or 6 points at 7,730 at 10:29 AM Singapore time, also signaling that Indian stocks may open on a flat note, with a positive bias today.

The 30-share Sensex on Wednesday hit a fresh three-week low with foreign investors trimming their holdings of Indian stocks as concerns over a faltering global economic recovery and renewed prospects of a US interest rate hike in the near-term soured the appetite for risky assets.

Marking a third straight day in the red, the Sensex slid by 127.97 points or by 0.51 per cent to end at 25,101.73 with shares of Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone tanking almost 12 per cent, the biggest slide since October 2008 after Citigroup Inc lowered the stock to neutral amid an increase in debt levels.

Global Markets:

On the Asia front, China’s Shanghai Composite was trading tad lower while Hang Seng declined as traders continued to fret over global economic growth outlook amidst a mixed batch of US economic data.

The private sector of the world’s biggest economy added fewer workers in April but services growth accelerated to a four-month high and March factory orders rebounded.

China’s service gauge fell to 51.8 in April from 52.2 in March, signaling a slowdown in the sector, adding to concerns over the world’s second biggest economy.

Japanese markets remained shut due to a trading holiday.

Overnight, US stocks fell with benchmark S&P 500 languishing at a three-week low after a report showed that US private employers added 156,000 workers this month, against 194,000 in March.

European stocks fell on Wednesday, with Dialog Semiconductor slumping after it cut its revenue outlook and BHP Billiton hit by news of a lawsuit filed against it in Brazil.

Ricoh India receives 21-day deadline from BSE to comply with SEBI norms
